This bloc expanded further in 1973 after the joining of United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Denmark. In 1981 it was joined by Greece followed by Spain and Portugal in 1986.In 1995 after the formation of European Union in 1993 the expansion included Finland, Sweden and Austria.
